Component Introduction

Most of the services deployed on the Cloudpods platform run in containers. Services deployed using ocboot and helm run directly on Kubernetes, while environments deployed using Docker Compose run directly on docker.

Next, we will introduce the component services of the platform.

onecloud-operator

The Onecloud-operator component is a cluster controller that enables automatic configuration, deployment, and operational monitoring of cluster services.

  • Deployment: onecloud-operator
  • Pod: onecloud-operator-xxx
  • Configuration:
# Configure the operator
$ kubectl edit oc -n onecloud
# View the configuration of the operator
$ kubectl get oc -n onecloud -o yaml
  • Features:
    • Automatic deployment of platform services, including initialization configuration and creation of corresponding k8s resources.
    • Upgrade and rollback: update or rollback the version of any service.
    • Resource cleanup: release corresponding resources when the platform service cluster is deleted.

web

Front-end service component

  • Deployment: default-web

  • Features:
    • Hosting front-end code
    • Nignx-related configuration

apigateway

API gateway component

  • Deployment: default-apigateway
  • Pod: default-apigateway-xxx
  • Features:
    • Provide web front-end API
    • Entry point for authentication and authorization.

keystone

  • Deployment: default-keystone
  • Pod: default-keystone-xxx
  • Features:
    • Authentication
    • Resource ownership: domain, project
    • Permission: role, policy
    • Service directory

region

  • Deployment: default-region
  • Pod: default-region-xxx
  • Features:
    • Cloud controller
    • Management of cloud resources such as computing, networking, storage, and databases

scheduler

Resource scheduling component

Image service component

baremetal

Physical machine management service component

host

Host service component

  • Features: Agent on private cloud host
  • Container: Under the host service, there are three containers: host, ovn-controller, andsdnagent
    • host:
      • Virtual machine lifecycle management
        • Enable and disable virtual machines through qemu
        • Perform other operations on virtual machines through qemu monitor
      • Storage management and disk lifecycle management
        • CURD operations for local disk and shared storage (Ceph, NFS, etc.) disk
        • Storage information detection
      • DHCP Server
        • As a DHCP Server to assign IP addresses to virtual machines
        • As a DHCP relay server forwarding DHCP requests when physical machines PXE boot
      • GPU device detection and initialization
        • Bind GPU devices with VFIO driver and register them to the cloud platform
      • Host initialization and information detection
      • Monitoring data collection- ovn-controller: Manages virtual machine VPC networks, connects to the southbound, and converts flows in the southbound to OVS flow table rules.
    • sdnagent: Manages virtual machine classic networks.

host-image

  • Pod: default-host-image-xxx
  • Function: Provides API for reading image content, which can be remotely mounted with fuse.

host-deployer

  • Pod: default-host-deployer-xxx
  • Function: Performs relevant operations for virtual machine deployment:
    • Identification and initialization of virtual machine image operating system.
    • Partition extension, file system formatting, etc.

vpcagent

  • Deployment: default-vpcagent
  • Pod: default-vpcagent-xxx
  • Function: Manages VPC configurations for ovn

esxiagent

VMware Management Agent

  • Deployment: default-esxiagent
  • Pod: default-esxiagent-xxx
  • Function: Agent for VMware management.

cloudmon

Monitoring and collection service

  • Deployment: default-cloudmon
  • Pod: default-cloudmon-xxx
  • Function:
    • Ping detection: probes IP addresses that are occupied every 5 minutes.
    • Usage data collection
    • Monitoring data collection for VMware, OpenStack, public cloud platforms, etc.

Monitoring and query service

  • Deployment: default-monitor
  • Pod: default-monitor-xxx
  • Function: Responsible for monitoring query and alarm functions.
